As the weather begins to warm up and summer approaches, it’s critical to remember to stay hydrated in the summer heat. Sweating can cause you to lose up to 40% of your body’s water, whether you’re relaxing in the sun or exercising in the heat. Preventative measures are your best defense against dehydration this summer. As the temperatures rise, here are some tips to keep your body healthy and hydrated.

Adults should drink at least eight 8-ounce glasses of water every day, which amounts to nearly a half gallon. However, you may need to drink even more to stay hydrated in the summer heat, especially if you’ve been sweating.

Don’t wait till you’re thirsty to start drinking.
Make your water taste better.

Listen to your body’s instructions

You may feel symptoms that are your body’s way of reminding you to drink water if you get dehydrated. If you become dehydrated, you may encounter the following signs and symptoms:

  • Cucumbers
  • Strawberries
  • Pineapples
